THE ONE REALITY EXISTS THOUGH YOU MAY NOT SEE IT

“Get a glass of water,” says the teacher and the student does so promptly. Holding out a handful of salt, the teacher then asks the student to put it in the water, and come back after a while.

“Taste the water from the top, the middle and at the bottom. How does it taste?”

“It tastes salty at the top, the middle and the bottom,” replies the student.

“You do not see with your eyes the salt in this water but there is salt in it. Likewise, the One Reality exists in your body though you do not perceive it. When your understanding gains a high level of subtlety, you will know it intimately.”

The teacher affirms that everybody, including the student in his front, is that subtle essence – the One Reality.

“That is the Soul! You are That!”

[Chapter 6 of Chandogya Upanishad thus employs a story – with a simple but effective dialogue – to convey how we must go from worldly vision to divine vision.]
